Kathleen - The Tattie Hoker
Kathleen is our famine doll. Tattie Hoker meaning Potato Picker many Irish girls and boys had to leave Ireland at the time of the famine and travel over to Scotland to work as farm labourers picking potatoes in order to send back money to there family in Ireland.
Kathleen is dressed in brown tweed skirt with brown linen work apron and matching headscarf. She has her 'tattie' bag around her shoulders, which is made from Hessian. Strong enough to carry her potatoes.
